Oliver Parker has signed on to direct Dunkirk with Working Title UK, Deadline reports. The film, based on the historic World War II battle, was written by Gavin Scott. Parker's previous directing credits include St. Trinian's , Dorian Gray and, most recently, Johnny English Reborn . Although the latter film performed modestly at the domestic box office with just over $8.3 million, it was a major success internationally, grossing $160 million to date. Scott, meanwhile, was the screenwriter on family-friendly features like Small Soldiers and The Borrowers . He also scripted several episodes of "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles".
